My short list of travel companions
includes: my life partner (boyfriend as a title seems inappropriate in my 40s),
my younger sister, or my BFF, Olivia (although my LP considers himself this
also; he’s so cute).
Olivia and I decided to visit
Vermont for a short weekend excursion. It was one of the remaining states on my
quest to visit all 50 (12 more to go!) and it seemed like a perfect candidate
for a quick getaway since it’s a direct flight from ATL. I’m a serious planner,
so I immediately began culling through websites and travel advisories for our
weekend activities.
As we all know, rarely does the
“thing” exceed the reviews of the “thing” … well, Vermont is an exception! We
ultimately discovered, there’s plenty to do and plenty to see in … Burlington
Vermont.
Church Street
Church Street Market Place is in
downtown Burlington. So much packed into four blocks: Historic architecture,
festivals, music/entertainment, and 100s of places to shop and dine.
Over 70% of the business are
locally owned (for those of us who want more then PF Changs and Express). We both did serious damage shopping in all
the cute boutiques; so much so that I had to buy a bag to bring my bounty back
to Atlanta. Bonus: it’s a smoke-free zone.

Culinary delights
Burlington Vermont takes
farm-to-table very seriously; we were in foodie heaven!
Some epicurean highlights from
our short weekend excursion include: The Farmhouse Tap & Grill, El Cortijo,
and Pizzeria Verita. Everything we had was super fresh and delish! Added bonus:
everywhere we went, everyone was so pleasant and helpful; they genuinely seemed
to be happy to serve you.
Jivana Holistic Spa
I would go back to Burlington
Vermont if only to experience another Jivana Nirvana spa day! The Tibetan
Pedi-Kur Foot Therapy and mud wrap in their Soft Pack Float were just heavenly.
FYI … Jivana is a Sanskrit word meaning “the rejuvenating effect of water.”
Outdoor activities
From private sailing adventures
on Lake Champlain, to yoga on the docks, a multitude of hiking trails, and
let’s not forget skiing, there are plenty of outdoor activities to keep one
busy. Weather permitting of course, we were there in June, so the choices were
endless (sans skiing).
Proximity to Quebec Canada
Montreal is a 90 minute car ride
from Burlington …and there’s so much fun to be had in Montreal. In fact, parts
of old town Montreal reminded me a bit of the Church Street Market Place area
but on a much grander scale; but that’s a different post (coming soon).
Be it a family vacation, girls trip, or romantic weekend, Burlington
Vermont should be on your list and I can plan the perfect trip for you!
